This website is a repository of the work done over thirteen years by Dr. Chris Hurst and his departed colleague, Dr. Derek Hurrell, of the University of Notre Dame Australia.
As well, other important contributors were Dr Chris Linsell, formerly of the University of Otago, New Zealand, and Dr Ray Huntley, formerly of Brunel University and the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. I also acknowledge the professional input and advice of Ms Lorraine Day, University of Notre Dame Australia, and Professor Emerita, Dianne Siemon, of RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. Without the input and professional support of these colleagues, none of this would have been possible.
The original project on multiplicative thinking began in 2013 and produced a bank of research articles published in national and international journals. Secondly, many sessions of professional learning were conducted at state, national, and international levels. Finally, a bank of assessment and teaching resources was developed. These were designed to assist teachers working with Australian curricula but can be used with any mathematics curricula in the world.
Mastering Multiplication
We believe that mathematics is more than a collection of formulas—it is a language of patterns and relationships. Our methodology is rooted in the systematic exploration of multiplicative reasoning, designed to empower learners of all levels to master the concepts that define the modern world.
